Control of molecular 'doormen' in fat cells offers potential new obesity treatment
New treatment options for obesity could emerge from a study published in Nature Communications on January 10. Researchers from Yale University School of Medicine utilized cellular and molecular approaches to identify pathways to restore the healthy balance of fat cells. Read More
Improving melanoma immunotherapies by regulating Treg proliferation
A new pathway to regulating anti-tumor immunity and increasing the effectiveness of PD-1 therapies was identified by scientists at Sanford Burnham Prebys Medical Discovery Institute. The results were published in Nature Communications on January 7. Read More
New molecular drivers of Parkinson's disease identified
A group of researchers at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai have discovered new molecular drivers of Parkinson's disease (PD) and subsequently determined how they impact the function of genes involved in the disease. This was accomplished using a complex statistical technique called multiscale gene network analysis (MGNA). The results were published in Nature Communications on November 20. Read More
Vaccine in development against hypervirulent Klebsiella
Concerns arising over the development of hypervirulent strains of Klebsiella pneumoniae have led researchers to develop an entirely new vaccine to protect against the gram-negative bacteria. A team of researchers at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis and VaxNewMo (a startup based in St. Louis) designed the vaccine by genetically manipulating E. coli. The details of the prototype designed were published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences on August 27th. Read More
