September 1, 2021 -- Sciex has launched BioPhase 8800, a new capillary electrophoresis system for enhanced biologic characterization in the development of biopharmaceutical therapies. The new instrument is a multicapillary system for capillary electrophoresis sodium dodecyl sulfate (CE-SDS) that processes eight samples simultaneously.
BioPhase 8800 enables high-throughput, sensitive CE-SDS and capillary isoelectric-focusing analysis for large sample sets, according to the firm. The system can be used for bioprocessing, analytical development, and quality analysis/quality control applications. It has eight times greater throughput than the company's previous analytical platform, the PA 800 Plus.
Key features of the BioPhase 8800 system include the following:
In addition, Sciex announced the launch of its Biologics Explorer software, which enables insights from high-resolution protein characterization data, speeding decision-making on critical quality attributes for biopharmaceuticals.
Biologics Explorer allows scientists to harness the spectra produced from the Zeno trap and electron-activated dissociation data from the ZenoTOF 7600 system and transform it into informative and actionable results. The results are based on a nodal algorithm structure that enables each processing and analysis step to be optimized so scientists can get the answers they need from their assays. The software extends the reach of the company into protein therapeutics, the firm said.
The software resulted from a collaboration between Sciex and Genedata and is built on Genedata Expressionist, an enterprise software platform for biopharmaceutical mass spectrometry. Currently, the company offers workflows for intact and subunit analysis, post-translational modification determination and multiattribute method, peptide mapping by electron-activated dissociation or collision-induced dissociation, and disulfide bond analysis.
