June 26, 2023 -- Asep Medical announced Friday that it has been awarded a grant by the NanoMedicines Innovation Network (NMIN) to develop a nanoparticle-formulated peptide solution as a drug delivery vehicle for treating chronic sinus infections caused by biofilms.

The Government of Canada funds NMIN through the Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) Program.

NMIN awarded the $200,000 CAD grant to Asep in conjunction with the firm's collaborative partners on the project at the Hancock Lab at the University of British Columbia (UBC), as well as NMIN PharmaCore, a subsidiary of NMIN that provides pharmacology, toxicology, and scale-up manufacturing expertise at UBC.

The funds will be used for pre-clinical studies to establish the technology's pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic properties, as well as its toxicology parameters, to guide dosing regimens.

The information will contribute to a pre-investigational new drug (pre-IND) meeting with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and advance the technology toward clinical trials, Asep Medical said.
