Northway Biotech christens new manufacturing plant in Boston area

January 21, 2021 -- Contract development and manufacturing organization Northway Biotech officially opened its new manufacturing site in the greater Boston area on January 21.

Based in Waltham, MA, the process development and manufacturing site covers 30,000 sq ft. A current good manufacturing practice (cGMP) suite will house 500-L microbial and 2,000-L mammalian bioreactors. The facility will also have process, analytical method development, and quality control labs supporting local and international customer projects. The company, formerly known as Northway Biotechpharma, said that it plans to offer end-to-end services for biologics, with the goal of being fully operational in the fourth quarter.

The company has a manufacturing plant in Vilnius, Lithuania. The Waltham, MA, site is the company's first manufacturing site in the U.S. and second globally. The new location entailed a capital investment of $40 million, the company noted.
