May 19, 2021 -- Thermo Fisher Scientific has announced it will open a cell therapy center with the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF). The company has also unveiled a new fluorescence light microscope.
The company will build and operate a 44,000-sq-ft cell therapy development, manufacturing, and collaboration center in a leased space on UCSF's Mission Bay campus. The facility, which is expected to open in 2022, will offer clinical and commercial current good manufacturing practices (cGMP) cell therapy manufacturing and technology development support to the school and other partners.
In other news, the company unveiled its integrated fluorescence light microscope (iFLM) system, the Thermo Scientific iFLM Correlative System, which allows cell biologists to streamline their sample preparation process for cellular cryo-electron tomography.
iFLM is being offered as a value-added component for the company's Aquilos 2 Cryo-FIB sample preparation system.
