May 3, 2021 -- Moderna has secured emergency use listing from the World Health Organization (WHO) for its COVID-19 vaccine.
The listing will allow Moderna to distribute its vaccine around the world and will enable the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Revolving Fund to acquire and distribute it.
In other Moderna news, the company announced a supply agreement with Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, for up to 500 million COVID-19 vaccine doses to be distributed through Gavi's COVID-19 Vaccines Global Access (COVAX).
The agreement covers 92 Gavi COVAX low- and middle-income countries. In the fourth quarter of this year, 34 million doses will be delivered; the deal includes an option for an additional 466 million doses to be delivered in 2022, Moderna said.
