February 12, 2021 -- The U.S. government has purchased an additional 100 million doses of Moderna's COVID-19 vaccine.
The U.S. government's order brings the total number of doses committed from Moderna to 300 million, or enough to vaccinate 150 million people under the two-dose regimen.
To date, Moderna has supplied 41 million doses of the vaccine to the U.S. government and more than 22 million Americans have received the vaccine. Moderna remains on track to deliver the first 100 million doses in the first quarter of 2021 and the second order of 100 million doses in the second quarter of 2021.
The company is working with U.S. manufacturing partners and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration on ways to accelerate vaccine delivery with the goal of providing the new order of 100 million doses before the end of July 2021.
Moderna also intends to continue to manufacture the supply of vaccine doses with its U.S.-based manufacturing infrastructure, it noted.
