August 9, 2021 -- Heat Biologics has broken ground for a new biomanufacturing facility in San Antonio.

Heat Biologics' subsidiary, Scorpion Biological Services, will build a large-molecule bioanalytical research and manufacturing center that the company will use to develop in-house immunoassays and biomarkers and take them through clinical trials to market, according to the firm.

The new facility will support the development of biologic drugs from conception through clinical trials and beyond, leveraging Scorpion's expertise in bioanalytics, cell biology, virology, translational biology, biomanufacturing, and drug development, according to the firm.

The company has received $1 million in tax abatements from the city of San Antonio and Bexar county, the company said.
