June 11, 2021 -- Genetic Technologies was recently granted a patent for methods to identify variations that occur in the human genome and relate those variations to the genetic basis of disease and drug response.
The patent, titled "Computer Systems and Methods for Genomic Analysis," builds on a previous patent granted to the company in 2020. The methods form the basis of genome-wide association studies, especially those focused on identifying single-nucleotide polymorphisms associated with drug response (i.e., pharmacogenomic or pharmacogenetic markers), according to Genetic Technologies.
The patent represents the foundation of a single test encompassing multiple serious diseases, the company said. The test is scheduled for release in the fourth quarter of 2021.
