May 27, 2021 -- The National Organization for Rare Disorders (NORD) has appointed Dr. Edward Neilan, PhD, to the new position of chief medical and scientific officer.

Neilan will oversee the development and implementation of research activities to advance medical research and translational science for rare diseases. In part, he will focus on expanding NORD's IAMRARE registry program, a patient-led research initiative meant to serve as a catalyst for the development of rare disease treatments.

Prior to joining NORD, Neilan worked at Sanofi Genzyme, a biotechnology company. He received medical and doctoral degrees from Stanford University and completed residency and fellowship training at Harvard Medical School.
