National Postdoctoral Association cancels meeting due to COVID-19

By The Science Advisory Board staff writers

March 11, 2020 -- Yet another scientific meeting has been canceled as a result of the rapidly spreading coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak. On March 10, the National Postdoctoral Association (NPA) made the decision to cancel its annual conference scheduled to take place in San Diego on March 27-29.

The NPA leadership made this decision following the state of emergency declared in California and implementation of travel restriction policies at many universities and institutions. Attendees will be refunded registration costs, as the NPA does not plan to reschedule the event.

Other scientific events that have been canceled or rescheduled in San Diego include the following:

  • Experimental Biology 2020, which was scheduled to bring 12,000 people to the area from April 4-7
  • The American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) 2020 annual meeting, originally scheduled for April 24-29
  • The Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) annual meeting scheduled for March 8-11
  • The University of California, San Diego's Future of Experimental Technology conference scheduled for March 13
  • Scripps Research's Front Row Lecture, scheduled for March 26
