BD debuts new cell sorter at ISAC

By The Science Advisory Board staff writers

June 6, 2022 -- Becton Dickinson (BD) is unveiling its new cell sorting technology at the International Society for Advancement of Cytometry (ISAC) CYTO 2022 conference taking place June 3-7.

The new BD fluorescence-activated cell sorting (FACS)Discover S8 Cell Sorter uses BD CellView Image Technology and is the first cell sorter to combine advanced spectral flow cytometry with sort-capable image analysis, according to BD. The combination could enable researchers to yield more accurate data and sort cells that previously could not be identified.

The cell sorter works by capturing the full spectrum signal emitted by sample preparations instead of specific bands like with traditional flow cytometry so that scientists can sort cells using more parameters. The cells can be categorized based on detailed microscopic image analysis of each one at high sort speeds, BD said.
