Tech Overview – Thin Layer Chromatography
Check out the next piece in our series on chromatography. This week, we take a look at thin layer chromatography (TLC). This method was introduced in the 1950’s as a fast, easy, and inexpensive method for qualitative analysis in laboratories across the globe. Read More
Regulatory Changes in China
According to China’s FDA (CFDA), the State Council issued two five-year plans on food and drug safety earlier this year that will impact analytical instrument manufacturers. According to the plan, 97% of agricultural products are required to meet quality standards by 2020. The plan on drug safety states that pharmaceutical drug quality is to be improved, calling for the approval of 289 generic drugs, as well as the reform of 3,050 national drug standards and 500 medical equipment standards by 2020. Read on to find out how these changes will impact instrument makers and more. Read More
Finding the Right Match - How Scientists See Antibody Suppliers
We at The Science Advisory Board recognize that scientific customers can exhibit remarkable brand loyalty. When we explored the antibody market in 2012, our members explained they make research antibody purchases based on “previous experience with the brand” and “colleague/coworker’s recommendations” as the most important selections overall. Research Antibodies - Friend or Foe?
Research antibodies are used in basic and clinical research because they recognize and bind to specific antigens, receptors, infectious organisms, and other proteins. Read More
Tech Overview - Analytical HPLC
Here at The Science Advisory Board we are starting a new series on analytical and life science instrumentation. In the past wet chemistry methods were put to use in order to perform chemical analyses. Modern analytical instruments accomplish similar tasks, but with greater sensitivity and specificity. Their increased user-friendliness has made laboratory life far easier for scientists and labs can now speed up procedures and analyze samples to an extent that would have been perhaps unimaginable only a decade or two ago. Each week we will present new content on a multitude of topics ranging from mass spectrometry to life science instrumentation like Sanger Sequencing. Read More
Tech Overview - Gas Chromatography
Today at The Science Advisory Board we will share another part of our Chromatography Series. Whether this technology is used frequently in your lab, or you simply want to learn more about how Gas chromatography works, be sure to keep reading. Read More
Tech Overview - Clinical and Prep HPLC
The development of high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) has created a powerful tool in the science space. HPLC technologies can be used in a number of applications, but a growing space is in clinical diagnostics Read More
Spotlight on the Emerging Market in China
Upon studying the analytical and life science instrument market in China, along with life science lab budgets, The Science Advisory Board has found that Asian markets are growing faster than scientific markets in the US and Europe. China in particular is of great interest because of the size and growth of their nearly $6 billion market. Read More
The Enduring Power of Branding in the Antibody Market
Here at The Science Advisory Board we recognize the growing market for research antibodies. One of the first questions we asked our members was “When thinking about commercially available antibodies, which brands come to mind?” We received hundreds of brands, but about 20 were the most frequent in our “mindshare” results.
