March 23, 2021 -- Global life sciences software developer Insightful Science plans to acquire cloud-based scientific data management firm Dotmatics of the U.K.

The deal will allow San Diego, CA-based Insightful Science to integrate its software into Dotmatics' enterprise data management platform for digitization of laboratory data workflows, which will allow for more data access, analysis, and exchange among scientists, the two firms said. Through software integration, Insightful Science will provide an end-to-end scientific research platform serving over 1 million scientists around the globe.

Insightful Science's existing portfolio includes GraphPad Prism, Geneious DNA, and SnapGene. The company is a subsidiary of Insight Partners, a global venture capital and private equity firm.

The transaction is expected to close in the second quarter of 2021. Until closing, the companies will continue to operate independently. Financial details of the acquisition were not disclosed.
