Gene Schaefer joins NIIMBL as senior fellow

April 14, 2021 -- Gene Schaefer, ScD, has joined the U.S. National Institute for Innovation in Manufacturing Biopharmaceuticals (NIIMBL) as senior fellow, effective April 5.

Prior to joining NIIMBL, Schaefer worked at Johnson & Johnson as senior director of active pharmaceutical ingredient (API) large-molecule pharmaceutical development and manufacturing sciences. In over 35 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical field, Schaefer has worked at Bristol-Myers Squibb, Schering-Plough, and Genzyme.

As senior fellow, Schaefer will lead the organization's N-monoclonal antibody (mAb) case study and play an important role in the process intensification program and the regulatory considerations committee.

NIIMBL is a public-private partnership with the mission of accelerating biopharmaceutical innovation, supporting the development of standards that enable more efficient and rapid manufacturing capabilities, and educating and training a world-leading biopharmaceutical manufacturing workforce in the U.S.
