August 10, 2021 -- The Consortium for Top-Down Proteomics has launched an initiative to develop guidelines for using online capillary electrophoresis (CE) to separate proteins and non-covalent protein complexes for top-down and native mass spectrometry (MS).
The initiative will evaluate the current art of using mixtures of proteins and protein complexes that are separated with CE and then measured online by MS for intact mass and structural fragments, according to the consortium. A range of CE and MS platforms will be used in the effort, which is being led by Liangliang Sun, PhD, of Michigan State University; Alexander Ivanov, PhD, of Northeastern University; and Kevin Jooss, PhD, of Northwestern University.
Once this review has been completed, the study leaders will then develop a set of recommended experimental conditions and parameters to assist researchers who are coupling the technologies to analyze challenging biological and biopharmaceutical samples, the consortium said.
