Sciex releases new LC-MS device for low-level metabolite detection

By Amerigo Allegretto, The Science Advisory Board contributing writer

June 18, 2021 -- Sciex has announced the release of ZenoTOF 7600, a new liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS)/MS instrument for low-level metabolite detection.

The ZenoTOF 7600 system enables scientists to identify, characterize, and quantify molecules. It includes Sciex's trap and electron activated dissociation (EAD) fragmentation. EAD fragmentation enables the system to characterize an individual lipid from a single spectrum, which the company said could help in discovering lipid markers for cancer and inflammatory disease.

The system's trap pulsing delivers more sensitivity and enables the routine detection of low-abundant molecules, according to the company. EAD, meanwhile, allows for the detection and quantification of protein glycosylation patterns and differentiates isomeric amino acids.

Sciex also announced new features and applications for its Sciex OS LC-MS software ecosystem. OneOmics suite is now commercially available and supports big data multi-omics research through the Sciex Cloud. In addition, a Molecule Profiler app can be used with ZenoTOF 7600 and adds capabilities for identifying and quantifying biopharmaceutical metabolites and impurities.

The ZenoTOF 7600 system delivers new capabilities for life science research and biotherapeutic development through novel ion fragmentation and increased sensitivity.
