Biotech innovator recounts decades-long journey to create drug discovery technology

June 8, 2022 -- Dr. Stan Crooke, PhD, knows a lot about biotechnology innovation. As the founder, chairman, and chief executive officer (CEO) of RNA therapy company Ionis Pharmaceuticals, Crooke pioneered development of the antisense technology platform and created one of the largest, most advanced pipelines in the biotech industry.

Crooke, who is currently founder and CEO of n-Lorem, a nonprofit organization that works with families impacted by ultrarare conditions to find, develop, and provide new RNA treatments, will be a panelist on June 13 at the 2022 Biotechnology Innovation Organization (BIO) International Convention in San Diego, where he'll discuss his decades-long journey and the broader scientific and management practices that were critical for the success of Ionis Pharmaceuticals' drug discovery technology.

In founding Ionis, Crooke told ScienceBoard.net that he set out to create a unique culture "where innovation was the center" and "the only drive was to do basic science and to advance the technology."

Additional information on the BIO panel session, "'Hope Lies in Dreams' -- Ionis's Stan Crooke and the First Drug for SMA Patients," can be found on the convention's website.
