April 6, 2022 -- Biotechnology company Moderna has announced the launch of the Moderna Charitable Foundation. Approximately $5 million in initial grants have been awarded to local and global nonprofits that support groups and causes disproportionately affected by COVD-19.

The foundation aims to advance scientific education and innovation, promote public health and access to healthcare, advocate for inclusion and diversity, and support underserved populations, the company said.

The initial grants have been awarded to five local and global organizations that are working to address these needs, including the following:

  • Boston Medical Center's Good Grief Program
  • Heading Home
  • International Rescue Committee
  • Life Science Cares
  • Year Up

In addition, Moderna said that employees can support causes and their local communities by participating in the foundation's matching volunteer and donation programs.

Eligibility and application procedures can be found on the foundation's website.
