September 16, 2021 -- Novo Nordisk Foundation, the Broad Institute of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, and Harvard University announced they will launch a center to study the genomic mechanisms of disease.
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Center for Genomic Mechanisms of Disease aims to accelerate efforts to mine genetic data for insights into disease mechanisms and how human genetic variants affect a person's risk for common complex diseases. A key focus of the center will be understanding type 2 diabetes and obesity, and to map human gene regulation.
The center will be supported by a $47.5 million grant from the foundation, and it will be based at the Broad Institute. Grant funding is earmarked through 2026 with a possibility of refunding. Broad Institute associate member Kasper Lage, PhD, will direct the new center.
