Bruker expands timsTOF product line

June 1, 2021 -- Bruker has added two new instruments to its trapped ion mobility spectrometry time-of-flight (timsTOF) product suite, including the second-generation of its timsTOF Pro system for 4D proteomics.

Now also supporting large-scale 4D epiproteomics -- i.e., characterization of all protein post-translational modifications (PTMs) -- timsTOF Pro 2 offers proteome coverage of more than 6,000 protein groups and more than 60,000 unique peptides in 60-minute gradients on 200 ng HeLa digests. according to Bruker.

What's more, it also achieves good depth of proteome and epiproteome coverage at 10 times lower amounts, identifying approximately 4,000 proteins and 30,000 peptides on 20 ng digests, the company said.

Bruker's second new system, timsTOF SCP, can perform single-cell 4D proteomics to complement single-cell RNA (scRNA) sequencing, according to the firm. A research paper published in late 2020 by Matthias Mann, PhD, of the Max Planck Institute of Biochemistry in Martinsried, Germany, reported that a prototype of timsTOF trueSCP could identify and quantify more than 1,400 proteins in single cells, Bruker said.

The company also noted that timsTOF SCP can aid in ultrasensitive neoantigen discovery in immunopeptidomics.
