908 Devices, Bio-Techne partner on protein characterization workflow

By The Science Advisory Board staff writers

May 4, 2021 -- 908 Devices and Bio-Techne are collaborating to develop an extended workflow solution for protein characterization.

Bio-Techne will combine its Maurice imaged capillary isoelectric focusing (icIEF) separation instrument for protein charge isoform analysis with 908 Devices' ZipChip device to deliver a seamless workflow for deeper protein characterization. Together the technologies will provide absorbance and native fluorescence icIEF detection as well as capillary electrophoresis sodium dodecyl sulfate (CE-SDS) analysis, saving significant development time and reducing the time to commercialization, according to the firms.

ZipChip, a plug and play open access platform, directly integrates electrospray ionization with mass spectrometry. ZipChip integrates with Thermo Fisher, Sciex, and Bruker mass spectrometers and utilizes capillary electrophoresis and electrospray ionization technology to minimize the sample preparation burden, perform high-resolution separation, and allow for direct introduction of samples into a mass spectrometer.

Financial details of the collaboration were not disclosed.
