March 30, 2020 -- LabShares Newton is offering free, fully equipped biosafety level 2 lab space, facilities, and resources for researchers addressing the global COVID-19 pandemic, it announced on March 30.

The company has opened its doors to the scientific community at large, including for-profit and nonprofit organizations, companies, and academic researchers on a selective, term-limited basis. The space will be available to scientists with critical COVID-19 research working on diagnostics, therapeutics, or other biomedical projects.

Turnkey access to the facility located near the Charles River, instrumentation, equipment, and services provide scientists in the greater Cambridge and Boston areas with the ability to start experiments immediately.

LabShares remains open as an "essential business" at this time and is maintaining safety restrictions that include no in-person meetings, no guests, daily disinfection, and social distancing in the lab. The company is making an effort to support scientists who may not have access to their own labs, according to founder and CEO of LabShares Jeff Behrens.
