NanoTemper unveils Andromeda to increase protein production

June 24, 2021 -- NanoTemper Technologies has released Andromeda, an instrument that determines optimal expression levels and thermal stability of recombinant membrane proteins in crude lysates.

Andromeda will increase the efficiency of protein production for contract research organizations and biopharmaceutical companies by enabling faster protein purification with thermally stable proteins, according to NanoTemper. The instrument will also allow teams to produce recombinant proteins without the need to rescreen by revealing expression levels and stability characterization from a single assay prior to purification.

Andromeda measures the thermal unfolding of a protein in crude lysates by detecting changes in fluorescence -- from either site-specific labeled histidine⁠-⁠tagged proteins or directly from green fluorescent protein (GFP) fusion proteins -- during a thermal ramp. Data generated from Andromeda can be used to select conditions with high expression levels, determine thermal stability, and screen for ligand binding.

The benchtop system requires capillaries optimized for measurements on Andromeda. The system also includes AN.Control software to design, set up, and run experiments and AN.Stability Analysis software to perform advanced data analysis across runs.
