New England Biolabs launches new DNA/RNA amplification reagents

August 26, 2021 -- New England Biolabs (NEB) has released a new line of new loop-mediated isothermal amplification (LAMP) products, including the WarmStart Multipurpose LAMP/RT-LAMP 2 Master Mix and the WarmStart Fluorescent LAMP/RT-LAMP Kit.

The new master mix and kit allow researchers to perform rapid, high-throughput detection of targeted segments of DNA and RNA using an array of amplification detection methods, such as real-time fluorescence and non-pH-based colorimetric readouts. The company's LAMP technology is a cost-efficient alternative to polymerase chain reaction and can amplify target DNA/RNA sequences without the need to oscillate temperature, said NEB. LAMP can also generate large quantities of DNA in 30 minutes, according to the firm.

The WarmStart master mix, which is included in the kit, features a blend of Bacillus stearothermophilus 2.0 WarmStart DNA polymerase and WarmStart RTx reverse transcriptase. It also contains Uracil-DNA glycosylase and deoxyuridine triphosphate to prevent carryover contamination. The WarmStart fluorescent kit pairs the master mix with LAMP fluorescent dye and supports real-time detection of LAMP reactions.
