By The Science Advisory Board staff writers

November 9, 2020 -- BioUtah, an independent life sciences trade association, has helped form BioHive, an industry branding initiative to bring cohesion within the broader life sciences industry and showcase innovations and contributions. The new initiative was formed to boost the state's economy and help patients around the globe.

The initiative partners agencies and life science companies in Utah. Partners include the Governor's Office of Economic Development, Economic Development Corporation of Utah, the Office of Salt Lake City Mayor Erin Mendenhall, World Trade Center Utah, Recursion Pharmaceuticals, the Partners for Innovation, Ventures, Outreach & Technology (PIVOT) Center at the University of Utah, Cibus Biotechnologies, IONIQ Sciences, Stryker, and LineLogic, among others.

Utah's life sciences industry employs 43,000 people directly and 88,000 indirectly, which is among the country's highest concentrations. These experts are paid on average 50% higher than Utah's average wage.

The collective has plans to highlight recruitment, raise capital, foster diversity, promote the industry, and continue developing the workforce.
