Thermo Fisher launches new compressor-free plate sealer

January 28, 2020 -- Thermo Fisher Scientific has released its ALPS 5000 plate sealer and is showing the product at the 2020 Society for Laboratory Automation and Screening (SLAS) meeting in San Diego.

The new plate sealer is fully electrically operated and designed to simplify the heat plate-sealing process for standalone and integrated robotic projects. Operation of ALPS 5000 does not require onboard compressors and compressed air lines, vacuum cups, or the use of adapters to change between different plates -- minimizing maintenance needs and enhancing work efficiency, Thermo Fisher said.

To use ALPS 5000, users interact with a touchscreen with a modern user interface that allows for user control over sealing parameters. They can customize the plate sealer based on application needs, from polymerase chain reaction to next-generation sequencing. Customization capabilities extend to sealing time, temperature, pressure, and sealing foil length, among other parameters. ALPS 5000 also offers users the option of traditional force sealing or distance sealing.
