The projects were selected from the institute's Project Call 3.1 as a means to drive innovation and advancement for the biopharmaceutical industry. The projects will address technology areas including process analytical technologies for contamination detection, cell therapy manufacturing processes, single-use components for continuous manufacturing, and data analytics applications in biomanufacturing.

Workforce development projects will offer new skills for incumbent workers in the cell therapy field, provide new career avenues for military members, and pilot an industry-academia hybrid virtual-based training program.

Two of the projects will be part of the Global Health Fund in partnership with the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. They will explore technologies that reduce animal-based testing and improve vaccine manufacturing processes.

Since its launch in 2017, NIIMBL has contributed over $63 million to the industry and contributed to over 70 technology and workforce development programs. NIIMBL has made the award details and participants available online.
