February 12, 2021 -- The U.S. government has exercised its option for an additional 100 million doses of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine
The U.S. government's order brings the total number of doses committed from Pfizer and BioNTech to 300 million or enough to vaccinate 150 million people under the two-dose regimen.
According to the agreement, the U.S. government will pay $1.95 billion for the additional 100 million doses. These doses will be provided for free to eligible U.S. residents as part of the government's commitment for free access to COVID-19 vaccines.
The vaccine doses will continue to be manufactured at Pfizer's Kalamazoo, MI, manufacturing site, according to the firms.
