Thermo Fisher launches SARS-CoV-2 GlobalAccess Sequencing Program

By The Science Advisory Board staff writers

May 7, 2020 -- Thermo Fisher Scientific is providing 50 units of its Ion Torrent Genexus system at a subsidized price to support global COVID-19 research as part of its SARS-CoV-2 GlobalAccess Sequencing Program.

The program will be available to research consortia and industry groups battling the spread of SARS-CoV-2. This initiative follows the company's introduction of its Ion AmpliSeq SARS-CoV-2 research panel optimized for the Torrent Genexus on May 6. The company is increasing its effort to accelerate SARS-CoV-2 research by increasing access to its next-generation sequencing technology.

The GlobalAccess Sequencing Program leverages the company's experience in supporting infectious disease outbreaks and brings its newest sequencing platform to more researchers to help answer important questions associated with the pandemic, Thermo Fisher said.
