Search For: Exact Phrase
To search for items containing ALL of the words you enter, separate the words with the keyword 'AND.'
Example: Searching on infection AND control will ensure that your results contain both words.
To search for items containing ANY of the words you enter, separate them with the keyword 'OR.'
Example: Searching on oral OR surgery returns articles containing EITHER of the words 'oral' or 'surgery.' Searching on oral surgery also returns articles containing either of the words 'oral' or 'surgery.' If the words appear together, they will be ranked above the results that contain only one of the words.
To search for EXACT PHRASES, type quotes around the phrase.
Example: Using search terms "infection control" AND bacteria returns any articles containing the phrase "infection control" and the word bacteria.
The wildcard character of "*" can also be used.
Example: You can shortname a search for "Bisphosphonate" by using "Bisphosp*"
Search For: Any word in the phrase
Another way to search for ANY of the words you enter is to select "Any word in the phrase" from the "Search for:" dropdown. This option will return more results than "Exact phrase." This option automatically expands your search terms to include all noun conjugations (including plurals, gender, case) and declensions
(verb forms) of the root of your search terms.
If you search for the word "image". The following words will also be included: imaging, imaged, etc.
If you search for multiple words. Results with the words located closer together will be more relevant (higher in the results) than the words further apart.
Search Results Order
By default, search results are displayed most recent to oldest (newer items appearing toward the top of the list of results). Your search results can be sorted by most relevant by clicking the "Most Relevant" link above the listed results. Rank is determined in part by how close the search terms appear toward the top of the page and also by the frequency with which the terms appear on the page. You can switch back to most recent by clicking on "Most Recent" link.
