Advion Reaches Milestone Orders for its expression Compact Mass Spectrometer
Today, Advion announced that during the year ending December 31, 2017, the company sold 58 units of its expression Compact Mass Spectrometer (CMS) per quarter, totaling a milestone of over 700 orders of the instrument. Advion, a leading provider of synthetic organic, natural product and peptide discovery chemistry mass spectrometry (MS) solutions, unveiled the single quadrupole CMS in 2011 for chemistry applications such as real-time reaction monitoring, mass confirmations of flash fractions and LC/MS.  Discuss
Improving the CRISPR-Cas9 Workflow
Following the insights gained from past research, we fielded a survey to our expert panel of scientists to quantify how the emergence of CRISPR is impacting the use of traditional tools and techniques. In this article, we are revealing some verbatim answers from the questionnaire.  Discuss
Tech Overview - Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry
If you have been following our mass spec series you have certainly recognized the number of different ways mass spec can be used to separate ions of different masses. Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (TOF-MS) was developed in the 1940’s and began to gain popularity in the 1990’s. Since then, the technology has been enhanced and updated to be the device we have today.  Discuss
The “Two-Headed Monster”: Vendors Tackle Antibody Validation
The Science Advisory Board examined the preferences of scientists regarding the purchase and use of antibodies, as well as customer trust, satisfaction, and "best-in-class" vendors in the sector. Respondents also made comments detailing their ideas on reproducible research using antibodies, the responsibilities of both vendors and researchers when it comes to using commercial antibodies, and much more.  Discuss
Next Generation Sequencing Data: Tertiary Analysis
As Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) technology develops, the analysis and interpretation of NGS data will prove to be one of the most complex aspects of transforming NGS data into meaningful results. Tertiary analysis, which follows primary and secondary analysis of the data, is among the most challenging steps.  Discuss
Compact Image-Based Cell Analyzers
At The Science Advisory Board, we have the opportunity to explore many different types of research technology on behalf of our scientific community. In this article we discuss the $50 million market for compact image-based cell analyzers. Broadly, cytometers refer to instruments that can measure various characteristics of cell populations in suspension. Depending on which and how many characteristics or parameters they address, these systems can be classified differently.  Discuss
