Is It Worth The Risk? Business Trends You Should Know About In The Bioprocessing Industry
The bioprocessing market is currently worth billions of dollars globally and is expected to increase 8.7 percent over the next five years. Pharmaceutical and biotech industries are the largest consumers of bioprocessing and their demand is expected to increase 9.3 percent over the next five years. Within these industries there are a limited number of vendors with the largest market share, including: Danaher (Pall & GE Life Sciences), MilliporeSigma (Merck Group) and Thermo Fisher. All of us probably have used products from one, if not all, of these companies at some point in our scientific careers. So the question is: how did these companies grow so large and gain dominance in the bioprocessing field?  Discuss

Establishing a regulatory pathway for pharmaceutical companies in the U.S. to manufacture biosimilar drugs presents a much anticipated new market opportunity for life science analytical instrument users.  Discuss
Tech Overview - Total Organic Carbon
Carbon is found in both organic and inorganic forms. Organic carbon typically comes from naturally occurring urea, amines, and humid acid or from synthetic sources such as pesticides, fertilizers, and detergents. It also occurs as a result of the metabolic processes of bacteria and microorganisms. Inorganic carbon can come from a wide variety of sources, such as carbonate, bicarbonate, and carbon dioxide. Measurements of organic carbon are important for assessing water quality for a variety of purposes, however total organic carbon (TOC) analyzers generally determine the total carbon content of a sample and then separately account for the organic and inorganic content of the sample. Since the inorganic and organic content must sum to the total content, any two measurements determine the third. For this reason, the instruments classified in this post are referred to generally as sum parameter instruments.  Discuss
Role of Chromatography in Cannabis Testing
In our Global Assessment series, we’ve already covered many exciting technologies and topics, such as portable spectroscopy machines, NGS, Triple quadrupole ICP-MS, atomic spectroscopy, and their respective roles in the industry. Today our analyst, Ivan, will give us some insight into the role of chromatography in cannabis testing.  Discuss
Tech Overview - Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry
If you have been following our mass spec series you have certainly recognized the number of different ways mass spec can be used to separate ions of different masses. Time of Flight Mass Spectrometry (TOF-MS) was developed in the 1940’s and began to gain popularity in the 1990’s. Since then, the technology has been enhanced and updated to be the device we have today.  Discuss
