Tech Overview - Flash Chromatography
Today’s focus will be on flash chromatography, a special type of column chromatography. Flash chromatography is a preparative liquid chromatography method that can quickly and easily separate organic compounds. This technique offers fast results because pressurized gas pushes the solvent through the column of the stationary phase, rather than rely on slower, gravity-based chromatography.  Discuss
Tech Overview - GC/MS
Today’s piece will discuss gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC/MS). GC/MS is a technique used to identify components of complex mixtures and determine the molecular weights of the compounds.  Discuss
Ion Chromatography
Ion chromatography allows for the separation of anions and cations in an ionic solution. The mobile phase consists of an ionic solution, which runs through the stationary phase, a column packed with ion exchange resin.  Discuss
New Research Products Abound in the First Half of 2018
We’re approximately half way through 2018, and the members of The Science Advisory Board continue to help drive innovation by sharing their opinions on new product concepts presented to them by the corporate sponsors of many of our studies. … Read more  Discuss
Tech Overview - Low Pressure Liquid Chromatography
In our latest Tech Overviews article, we will discuss low-pressure liquid chromatography (LPLC) systems. Both types of chromatography separate components of a mixture by exploiting physical and chemical characteristics of the components present in the mixture. Like other types of chromatography, LPLC contains a mobile phase and a stationary phase.  Discuss
Tech Overview – Supercritical Fluid Chromatography
Supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) is one of the few “green” purification technologies in the research space today. The method is unique in that a supercritical fluid is used as the mobile phase. This is a substance that has been both compressed and heated beyond its critical point, and thus a distinct liquid or gas phase does not exist; instead it is a supercritical fluid. The fluid is unique in that it has the high density of a liquid but the low viscosity of a gas. Read on to learn more!  Discuss
Tech Overview – Thin Layer Chromatography
Check out the next piece in our series on chromatography. This week, we take a look at thin layer chromatography (TLC). This method was introduced in the 1950’s as a fast, easy, and inexpensive method for qualitative analysis in laboratories across the globe.  Discuss
Regulatory Changes in China
According to China’s FDA (CFDA), the State Council issued two five-year plans on food and drug safety earlier this year that will impact analytical instrument manufacturers. According to the plan, 97% of agricultural products are required to meet quality standards by 2020. The plan on drug safety states that pharmaceutical drug quality is to be improved, calling for the approval of 289 generic drugs, as well as the reform of 3,050 national drug standards and 500 medical equipment standards by 2020. Read on to find out how these changes will impact instrument makers and more.  Discuss
Finding the Right Match - How Scientists See Antibody Suppliers
We at The Science Advisory Board recognize that scientific customers can exhibit remarkable brand loyalty. When we explored the antibody market in 2012, our members explained they make research antibody purchases based on “previous experience with the brand” and “colleague/coworker’s recommendations” as the most important selections overall.  Discuss
Research Antibodies - Friend or Foe?
Research antibodies are used in basic and clinical research because they recognize and bind to specific antigens, receptors, infectious organisms, and other proteins.  Discuss
