Lonza MycoAlert

Mycoplasma testing

The MycoAlert Assay selectively detects the activity of certain mycoplasmal enzymes, which includes the conversion of ADP to ATP. The ATP levels in the sample before and after the addition of the MycoAlert substrate were detected and indicate the presence or absence of mycoplasma in the sample. If mycoplasma is present in the sample, the ATP levels will be elevated by the reaction of mycoplasmal enzymes with their specific substrates in the MycoAlert Substrate.

Since we don’t have any mycoplasma contamination in our sample, it is difficult to say if the assay is working fine. In order to avoid this confusion, Lonza should provide a positive control (particular enzyme of the mycoplasma) along with the kit.
