The Science Advisory Board Commemorates its Fifth Year Anniversary
Posted 9/11/2002

As The Science Advisory Board commemorates its fifth year anniversary, I would like to highlight the many ways in which our members have helped build a dynamic, online community of over 13,000 individuals from 62 countries.  Since 1997, The Science Advisory Board has become a central hub of biomedical and life science information on the Internet.

This information includes profiles of scientists and medical professionals in the Member Spotlight column; book, website and product reviews; discussions on science, medical and policy issues in the Discussion Forum; editorials on cutting edge or controversial topics in the Perspectives column; and job and curricula vitae postings.

“The Science Advisory Board was the first scientific forum I found that utilized the advances in communication technology in such a positive manner.  We are our own greatest resource and the SAB has given us the ability to connect and share our experiences and expertise thereby strengthening the Scientific Community as a whole.  Knowledge is power!”

As a member of The Science Advisory Board, you have been part of a virtual community of life science and medical professionals that regularly expresses its opinions about the tools and technology of the life sciences industry. These opinions -- as obtained through Science Advisory Board-sponsored studies -- are already shaping production and development of products in the life sciences industry. The Science Advisory Board is a positive force influencing the future conduct of science and medicine.

"I have been a SAB member since the beginning. As a nurse, I have been on the receiving end of products that are not user or patient-friendly. I subscribe to a number of professional journals, and occasionally write for nursing publications. Having rapid access to current information and standards of practice is important for me. I am delighted to have input into issues that affect my profession and strongly support SAB's mission!"

Everyone in the medical and life sciences community has opinions to share about the tools and techniques of their profession. The Science Advisory Board is the forum to facilitate this sharing be it through expressing your opinions in an online study, writing a product review or participating in a discussion forum.

"All right, I confess it! I first joined the SAB because of the rewards! However, in five years the SAB has grown not only in membership, but also in the variety of services offered through its website. They represent opportunities of networking not only with peers, but also with industry. Thus, we can voice our thoughts and opinions individually and as a group. That’s the reason why I am still a member, and try to be as active as my work allows me."

The Science Advisory Board makes all of these avenues of information sharing -- plus many more -- not only possible, but also easy and rewarding. Some of these rewards include professional networking, exclusive previews of new technologies, compensation through the ViewPoints rewards program, consulting opportunities with The Science Advisory Board, and access to a vast array of employment resources.

“The SAB has been a good gig for me.  I justify the time it takes to fill out the survey form by convincing myself there's something that can be learned from it (like a new product, technique, way to optimize lab productivity, etc.,) and I'm usually right.”
