SAB NewsThe Five-Year Mark: Reviewing the Past and Planning the FuturePosted 10/3/2002 In recognition of our fifth year anniversary, The Science Advisory Board decided to poll its members about what they thought were the most valuable benefits of membership and what new features they would like added in the next five years. SAB members clearly value the ability to evaluate the tools and techniques of their professions. It is through the many studies the Board conducts that members have the opportunity to voice their opinions on these tools and techniques. Another popular benefit is receiving invitations to preview new technologies from leading life science companies. Networking opportunities with fellow members was also listed as a key attraction of membership. As The Science Advisory Board continues to grow beyond its 13,000 members, these opportunities to share research ideas and communicate scientific findings will certainly expand. Almost half of the respondents to the poll would like to participate in even more studies. In response to this demand, members will notice that starting next year, the number of studies available per month will increase. A quarter of the membership is also interested in taking part in question and answer sessions with pioneers or thought-leaders in their field of research. Plans for this type of interactive dialogue are currently under development. Another suggestion is to host more SAB-sponsored events in major cities, similar to the May 2002 event that featured a dinner reception and presentation by a SAB Steering Committee member in the Washington DC metro area. Other members would like to be able to listen to streaming audio conversations with experts in new technologies. On behalf of the staff of The Science Advisory Board, I want to thank everyone who participated in this two-part, membership satisfaction survey. We are thrilled to know that you enjoy being part of The Science Advisory Board and look forward to implementing your suggestions to enhance your membership experience. Additional ideas can be emailed to me at t.zemlo@scienceboard.net With sincere thanks, Tamara Zemlo, Ph.D., MPH Director, The Science Advisory Board |
